Born and trained in Belgium, Anna Torfs moved as a young designer to the Czech Republic to work with a group of renowned glass masters. She began designing her own glass collections in 2002.
The ability of glass to capture, reflect and absorb light is the central theme in Anna’s work, infused with her wonder at how old glass techniques can lead to contemporary objects. Cutting through the object like an anatomist, Anna reveals layer after layer to show how an object is built. These unconventional cutting techniques also reveal the contrast between the vibrant centre and the sober “skin” of her objects.
