A new spectacular edition of Blooming Spark by Hsiao-Chi Tsai & Kimiya Yoshikawa was unveiled this week at Designjunction 2012 event. This is a second edition using new colours and techniques following the successful multi coloured Blooming Spark I from 2011.

Tsai and Yoshikawa come from textile and sculpture backgrounds respectively. Their joint practice has cumulated in some extraordinary pieces that marry unexpected materials such as neoprene, acrylics and UV paint with lighting and installation. Their bold use of colour and modern sensibility combine to produce joyful, imaginative work. The pieces are contradictory being synthetic, organic and hand made all at the same time.

Well known for their public and private commissions, for Vessel Gallery they have produced a vibrant unique sculptural chandelier in acrylic that resembles a bouquet of alien botany.

Lukeke Glass Birds

NEW ARRIVALS – These charming cast glass birds are available in a myriad of colours. There are three styles to choose from: Silver Eye, Fantail and Swallow which have such detail they look as if they could take flight at any moment.

All come with a hidden fitting to allow them to be wall mounted. An individual bird – should you be able to choose which design – would make a great talking point for a hallway, stairwell or anywhere you fancy. Whereas several would be spectacular! Designed and hand crafted by internationally renown glass artists Jacomb & Rutecki Design from New Zeeland. Price: £225 each

Shown in the image of three; Silver Eye, Fantail and Swallow £225 each, Size: 16.5 x 16.5 cm

About Jacomb and Rutecki design:

In recent years Katherine Rutecki (NY, USA) and Luke Jacomb (Auckland, New Zealand) have respectively risen to the forefront of the international studio glass movement. Their reputation is already firmly established in the United States and they are both represented in significant private and public collections, including the Ebeltoff Glass Museum (Denmark), Corning Museum of Glass (New York, USA) and the New Orleans Museum of Art (Louisiana, USA).

Currently based in Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand in 2006 they introduced Lukeke Design through which they collaborate to produce an affordable range of handmade cast and blown glass works.

In their own words;  ‘These cast glass, wall-mounted birds appear to move with the changing light creating enchanting silhouettes and shadows which mimic their flight path. In pairs they are engaging in that they appear to be in dialogue; in threes, fours and fives they appear to swoop and rise which lends them a rhythmical, almost musical quality. In ‘3s and 5’s particularly, they are reminiscent of the hugely popular row of ducks which graced the walls of the Colony’s homes during 1950s – though these feathered fellows are far more chic. In larger groups they are simply magical – they literally flock – one can almost hear the beat of their elegant wings.’

We are proud to announce that three of Vessel Gallery artists and projects are represented in the fith edition of  the British Glass Biennale 2012 at the International Glass Festival. Located in the Ruskin Glass Centre in Stourbridge’s historic glass quarter within the industrial heartland of the West Midlands; on the site of the former Webb Corbett/Royal Doulton glass factory. The Biennale is a juried exhibition that takes the pulse of the current British glass scene; to observe, reflect and catalogue trends and influences emerging each year. It also aims to put makers in the UK on an international platform, and celebrate what is being achieved in this country with glass.

We have been showing Heather’s glass creations for a couple of years now and are thrilled that has she won The Balvenie Master of Craft Glass & Ceramics award however in addition to this, she has also been awarded the converted overall prize of Master of Craft for 2012.

Not only does Heather produce wonderfully engraved glass but she is single handedly bringing about a revival for the lost art of copper wheel engraving here in the UK.

We will have new pieces arriving soon but for more information on Heather’s huge achievement, please click on the link Thebalveniemastersofcraft
