Also new for 2012 – Campbell’s Soup Tin vase

Many years of cooperation between Rosenthal and the Andy Warhol Foundation live on in the various collections still made today. Some of Warhol’s mosticonic images are immortalised as limited editions in Rosenthal’s high quality porcelain. The Campbell’s Soup Tin is the most regonisable of Warhol’s work, having taken the ordinary and elevated it to fine art through his canvasses, this piece is witty in returning to the three dimensional. As much as it is a vase it also comes with a lid making it’s uses many: storage jar, cookie jar or an art piece in it’s own right. This being the 2012 edition is available in two-tone yellow with aqua blue, plum and purple detail. Please contact us for more information on the previous years designs.

Andy Warhol collectors lidded vase. 2012 Limited edition, 30cm height. £340

A new range of limited edition Fornasetti objects made by Bitossi have just arrived, these are very rare items and in very limited run of production.

These objects were conceived by Barnaba Fornasetti (son of Piero) with the aim of combining the imagery of Fornasetti and the creative skills of Bitossi  into a collection of objects featuring the shape of the Fornasetti vase that has been stretched into a table, lamps, book-holders etc. Barnaba Fornasetti used this particular shape of vase as a canvas on which he transferred the techniques and skills from the Bitossi Ceramiche archive, making a perfect mix.

Vessel is excited to present new works by Swedish glass star, Ludvig Löfgren for Kosta Boda. It’s unusual for a material as revered and precious as glass to draw it’s influences from rock music and horror films, but this is what Ludvig Löfgren does with an energy that is infectious. Bouncing around on Vessel’s shelves this week are a collection of sinister pastel bunnies, rats and owls, all uniquely immortalised in the highest quality hand blown and hand sculpted crystal. Löfgren creates a frisson from the unlikely marriage his material and subject matter. The conflict between the ‘hands off’ nature of glass and Ludvig’s rock culture references blow away the cobwebs from our expectations of the material.

‘Candy Rabbits are so colourful and cute that you practically want to eat them,’ says Löfgren. ‘I want to convey the feeling that they seem both sugary sweet and slightly scary at the same time. A nice fairytale that can just as easily go off the rails and turn into a pure horror story.’

Candy Rabbits, £395 each (all unique, approx. 30cm in height)

NATIVO CAMPANA by Fernando & Humberto Campana

The Brazillian born brothers are two of the most celebrated personalities in contemporary design and Vessel is delighted to present their new collaboration with Corsi. Their work marries highly unexpected and unusual combinations. ‘Nativo’ is a collection of 15 vessels that has come about through the Campana’s research into natural forms and the flexible resin of Corsi Design Factory. Soft leather frames a window of resin, twigs are preserved by the resin and yet erupt from the vases edges. The results confound your expectations of how different materials and forms are supposed to behave and be used.

Sagarana, leather and resin, numbered edition, height 42cm –  £495.

Last week Vessel launched some amazing new products at Super Design in Bloomsbury Square and amongst them were Marco Dessi’s stunning woven glass lighting pieces for Lobmeyr. Inspired by Lobmeyr’s classic “Schloss Hof” chandeliers Dessi re invented the application of the glass tubes. He selected the shape of traditional lanterns as a template and used hexagonally bent glass tubes in combination with silken cords creating a structure resembling a typical woven basket. The references to hand crafting gives the glass a real warmth and hands on feel whilst the lighting feels utterly contemporary.

Marco Dessi Basket 2010 is available in limited edition of 49 pieces with special grey glass and silver plated finish. Also in regular production clear glass with brass fittings. Both Max 400W.

Renowned for its expertise in bespoke lighting design, Mediterraneo Studio is proud to present ‘Intuizione’, the first collaboration between Creative Director Giovanni Corrado and Vessel Gallery.

This project is built upon the shared love of Venetian glass and passion for design and innovation by both Giovanni and Angel Monzon, Art Director of Vessel Gallery.

Exploring key themes including silhouettes, movement and dynamic juxtapositions, the new series comprises five chandeliers which showcase how the traditional skills of Murano glass blowing can be used to push contemporary design forward. The initial brief is centred around the idea of using elements to create larger forms and translating them to a human scale appropriate for domestic application, ‘Intuizione’ takes a modern approach and marks a new creative direction for Mediterraneo and Vessel.

ELIO – Diameter 95cm, Height 63cm, 10 G9 Lightbulbs, Limited Edition of 5 + AP

LEOPOLDO – Diameter 71cm, Height 95cm, 3 G9 Lightbulbs, Production

The collection experiments with layers of simple geometric shapes in the same way as an artist would study the technique of perspective drawing, Giovanni creates a series of stunningly complex threedimensional forms – all of which suggest familiar but also surprising silhouettes. Negative space plays a fundamental role in triggering such impression, allowing the viewers to complete the image in their mind. These void spaces help generate a sense of motion which permeates the series. The dynamic arrangements invite the viewers to change their viewpoints and engage in the formation of changing silhouettes. Each piece provides various perspectives depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

Anna Torfs

Vessel is delighted to be showcasing the works of Belgium’s foremost glass designer Anna Torfs. After studying interior design at the Sint-Lukas School for Architecture in Brussels, Torfs moved to the Czech Republic where she specialised in stage design and worked as a freelance furniture and glass designer. She began designing her own glass collections in 2002. The ability of glass to capture, reflect and absorb light is the central theme in Anna’s work. Transparency and translucency are not always identical. Colour is critical, evoking strong emotions; colours should be “true”. Cutting through the object like an anatomist, Anna reveals layer after layer to show how an object is built. These unconventional cutting techniques also reveal the contrast between the vibrant centre and the sober “skin” of her objects.
Over the years, Anna has developed two collections: Anna Torfs Basics and Anna Torfs Edition. However distinctive, both collections share the same approach – contemporary design using traditional Bohemian glass techniques as a base from which to explore and create.
