Studio Strange are a Danish glass blowing couple Theis Strange and Pernille Knudsen. The pair met whilst working at a glass studio in Norway and took on a studio in Brittany, France for a time before returning to their motherland, Denmark. From their studio at the prestigious Ebeltoft Glass Museum they give shape to their weird and wonderful vision.
In their own words; ‘With this range of work, we wanted to create a series of objects referring to growth and the way organic materials and organisms behave. The expression balances between the recognizable and the alien, and is intended to evoke the viewers curiosity and induce to further investigations. They are made in solid, colored glass with an underlying opaque layer, which create a sense of depth and inner shapes. The matte finish makes them silky to the touch, and some have a polished surface that allows a view to an inner world in vivid colors. In the process of developing the pieces, we have focused on properties such as fluidity/gravity, balance and stability, transparency/opacity, asymmetry and rhythm.’
