Studio Dillon is an internationally renowned studio, comprising Jane
Dillon and Tom Grieves whose work is produced by Cassina, Herman Miller
and Habitat. Dillon originally worked for Ettore Sottsass at Olivetti,
subsequently setting up her studio in London and gaining a reputation
for innovative office seating, and working with revolutionary
materials. She is currently a lecturer at the RCA.
Design group Studio Dillon in their own words about glass:
‘The
experience of being at Murano can only be likened to the experience of
the composer hearing their music being interpreted for the first time.
To have the opportunity to focus on the hands skills of craftsmen and
the material itself was truly liberating. Working with the Master
craftsman was the most exciting collaboration imaginable. We took a
long look at the traditional Murano techniques of Zanfirico and optic
blown Filigrana, and used these to express the fluidity, weight and
volume of our asymmetrical forms, working away from applied decoration
to an integrated solution between tradition, craft, material and
modernity.’
This project originates from the Salviati Meets
London project in 2005 curated by Vessel Gallery. |
