£100 carafe £240 for 6 tumblers
Designed by Hans Harald Rath for Lobmeyr in 1952, the Alpha
glassware series fits snugly into the hand and was inspired by a copper
beaker from the middle ages. The ‘Alpha beaker’ was very much a product
of the 1950s, stackable, elegant and practical. Alpha is made of the
thinnest muslin glass and is hand blown into wooden moulds. Named after
the finely woven French fabric, muslin glass is crystal blown to a
thickness of only 0.7 – 1.1mm. It appears delicate, but is remarkably
resilient thanks to its inner elasticity and formal construction.
The water tumblers are available in a set of six mixed colours and are 9cm wide x 7cm high. The carafe is 21cm high.
