Tapio Wirkkala is known as the multi-talented genius of Finnish design, the Philippe Starck of his generation. His scope extended from glassware to bank note design and utility graphics. Wirkkala harnessed the forms and patterns of nature in his prolific career and was able to inject the mass produced object with a feeling of uniqueness.
This series of five bottles, designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1968 for Venini, employs the "Incalmo" technique wherein two different types of glass, worked separately, are fused together to obtain, within a single object, separate areas differentiated by colours. This technique was developed and perfected by the master glass-workers at Venini. The dimple in the bottom reminds us that the piece was once liquid glass.
Now available in five new colours.
