The Dutch designer Hella Jongerius works on the cusp of design, craft,
art & technology to fuse traditional and contemporary influences,
high and low tech, the industrial and artisanal. In her search for the
balance between mass-produced objects and traditionally crafted
one-offs, Jongerius breathes new life into forgotten designs and
techniques.
The overlapping of old and new evident throughout
contemporary design is boldly represented by these bowls with animal
figures, produced by renowned Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory. The
animal figures are from the company's archives, as are the decorative
patterns painted across their bodies, often lifted from such disparate
sources as an 18th century teacup. |
