| About Jaime Hayon |
Spanish artist/designer Jaime Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974. He trained as an
industrial designer in Madrid and Paris. In 1997, he began working as a researcher in
Fabrica, Benetton Group's communication research center in Treviso, Italy. A year later, he
was appointed, by Mr. Luciano Benetton and communication guru Oliviero Toscani, head
of the design department, where he oversaw the development of interiors for shops,
exhibitions and restaurants as well as books, magazines and logo designs. 2004 saw the
start of Hayon's individual career and he has kept himself busy with a spectrum of eclectic
projects. From toys, to furniture and interior design as well as artistic installations, his
boldness has been to transcend the borders of the often separated worlds of art and
design, comfortably bridging the two whilst embedding them with his unique style.
Being a multifaceted creator, Jaime's work has developed in diverse areas encompassing
curatorial roles, artistic roles and design work. As a curator he has organized, along with
the British Council and Experimenta, events of relevance like the latest edition of the
Lisbon Biennial of design. He has also participated in conferences and lectures worldwide,
evidence of his relevance as contemporary voice. As an artist, his exclusive furniture
design work was first brought to life at London's David Gill Gallery, where his
'Mediterranean Digital Baroque' exhibit has enormous success. His work has also been
shown at the Vitra design Museum and the Design Museum in London, where the
bathroom collection was recently exhibited in the 'Tank' as the lead tendency representing
European design. 'Mon Cirque', a storytelling installation, was created in 2005. From then,
it has been presented in Barcelona, Minneapolis, Lisbon, Paris and Cologne with
tremendous success. Hayon's latest itinerary exhibit 'Stage' was first shown at the Aram
Gallery in London and was awarded the Icon magazine 'Best Installation' prize for Design
week 2006. Stage was recently exhibited at the Vivid Gallery in Rotterdam and in Casa
Pasarela, Madrid. 'AQHayon', Hayon's bathroom collection for Artquitect Launched in
2005, caused a tremor in the bathroom industry and design community and placed him on
the forefront of the design tendencies. He has designed several light collections for
Metalarte, such as the Josephine and the Funghi Collection. His 'Showtime' furniture
collection for BD Ediciones de Diseņo has received worldwide attention and recognition for
its innovative shapes and finishes. Since mid 2006, Jaime Hayon is the art director for
Lladrķ, a prestigious porcelain manufacturing company in Valencia. Hayon's most recent
collaborations with Bisazza, Moooi, Established & Sons, Camper and Lladrķ were
exhibited at this year's Milano furniture fair. Currently with bases in Barcelona, Italy and
London, Hayon has been acknowledged by Wallpaper as one of the 10 breakthrough
creators worldwide as well as the 2006 Elle Decoration International Award. Clients such
as Benetton, Metalarte, Artquitect Edition, Coca-Cola, Danone Group, BD Barcelona,
Adidas, Palluco, Piper Hiedsieck, Bisazza, Swarovski and Camper work with Hayonstudio.
Hayon's work has been featured in all major design publications and newspapers
worldwide. "Works", the first monograph about his work published by Gestalten has
recently been released. |
