A unique handblown and sculpted artwork by Carl Cyrén.
Cyrén graduated with a master’s degree in design from Konstfack in 2016 and considers himself more an industrial designer than an artist, producing his pieces in collaboration with skilled craftsmen.
Carbon Craft is an on-going exploration by Cyrén where knitted carbon fibers are encased in molten glass. Challenged by their inherent differences, there is a self-willed interaction created when combining the two. Threads that stretch apart and pull together trap air bubbles. The glass expands through the spaces in between, bulging to almost bursting point yet is essentially restrained by the tightness of the knitted web. The results are glossy, organic structures, that capture light and space with an intense and intriguing beauty.
