about
An experienced diving instructor, the concept behind the work is best explained in the artist's own words;
“An eerie glass shipwreck emerges like a spectre from the mist, casting a haunting spell upon its observers, revealing fractured reflections dancing amidst the murky depths. The aim with each of these sculptures is to evoke a sense of surreal desolation that is frozen in time. With muted hues and subtle contrasts, the scene beckons viewers to confront the secrets concealed within the shadows.
I want to compel the audience to embark on a journey of chilling introspection, where the line between reality and imagination blurs, like the sunlight struggling to penetrate the darkness of an unforgiving sea. Amidst the wreckage, tints of gold and platinum draw the eye inside, tempting exploration into the depths of their imagination.”
Specialising in working with hot glass, Devereux is adept at working with both solid and blown forms. With an extensive knowledge of glass techniques, he will happily undertake new challenges, relishing the opportunity to expand his expertise.
Positioned as one of the most active glass artists currently working in the UK, it is the unique combination of abundant skills and technique with an eye for detail that has made Devereux a highly respected and sought-after glass craftsman.
The artist can also create pieces to commission, please contact the gallery for further information.
